Dexter Cattle Promotion Group (DCAI) - NSW
SYDNEY

Australia's First
Dexter Cattle
Promotion Group

Established in 1991, the Sydney Group brings together
DCAI Members and Dexter enthusiasts located in the
Sydney region of NSW. The boundaries of the Sydney Group encompass the areas of Hawkesbury, Hunter Valley, Central Coast, Central West Tablelands, Illawarra and the Southern Highlands.
The Dexter Group of Sydney was the first Dexter Promotion Group formed in Australia and is currently the largest in NSW. Formed in 1991, the Sydney Group remains one of the most active in terms of promotional and social activities. The Sydney Group continues to benefit from its strong association with some of the first people to import Dexter cattle into Australia in modern times. Foundation Members of DCAI remain as cornerstones of today’s membership and willingly share their knowledge of Dexter history and their extensive experiences in raising Dexters.
Our members have Dexters for various reasons including stud breeding and showing, milking, and meat production. They are enthusiasts of all ages, including families who share a special dedication to this unique, dual purpose breed. The one thing we all have in common is the commitment to the preservation and ongoing success of Dexter cattle.
Dexter owners meet to share information and practical experiences. Our field days and stud visits provide support to new and established breeders alike. These activities double as social events and prove to be especially helpful to new owners of Dexter cattle. Group field days give members and visitors the opportunity to share skills and ideas and often include an industry based guest speaker. Activities are held in different parts of the region to ensure easy access for all members.
Sydney Group Members promote Dexter cattle at agricultural field days including Tocal Field Days, Mudgee Small Farm Field Days and Hawkesbury Farming Small Areas Expo. These promotional events ensure the public have the opportunity to see the cattle first hand and obtain information from active and dedicated breeders.
The Sydney Group provides Dexter cattle to schools as part of their respective agricultural studies programmes. The Sydney Group's ‘Dexter Steers to Schools’ initiative enables students to gain valuable experience while raising and preparing Dexter cattle for ‘hoof and hook’ competitions.
On top of all that we are a friendly bunch of people who just love new faces. If you are located in our region and are interested in becoming involved please contact the Sydney Group Secretary for dates of our next meeting or activity. Visitors are always welcome to our events and we encourage any one interested to join us at the next event.
