"Get a Dexter"
Open Day at
Clem's Place

The wind and rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of members of the Manning Valley Dexter Cattle Promotion Group who gathered for an open day on Saturday June 28 at Libby and Ron Brown’s LRB Dexter Stud at Glendon Brook.
An inspection of the 20 acre property included an assessment of the feed available to get through the winter and the weeds that needed to be controlled. In particular it was identified that there were several patches of “African Love Grass” to be removed before they seed again. Paddies Lucerne, Fire Weed and Purple Top also required attention.
In their first season of breeding the LRB Stud’s 7 Dexter cows have produced 4 heifer calves and 3 bull calves. Two of the bull calves have been cut and will be raised for meat. The other bull calf “Caesar Augustus” has been fully registered as a double polled animal.
The successful open day was also attended by representatives from two Dexter Studs at Congewai, hobby farmers with Dexter Cattle from Gresford and Vacy plus people from Singleton who are thinking of taking on Dexter Cattle.
Libby and Ron Brown after gaining experience showing their cattle at local shows such as Gresford, Singleton and Maitland will be taking several of their herd to the Queensland Annual Dexter Breed Show at Nanango on the 13th and 14th July.
Having been involved with Dexters for less than 4 years Libby and Ron have quickly taken an active role in promoting and showing the breed. They are looking forward to the challenge of competing against the best of the Queensland Dexter Breeders.
